The 24-105 has more reach, and has IS (which more-or-less compensates for the loss of a stop). The 24-70 gives up reach and IS, but gains a stop. Both take excellent images. For me, the extra stop was worth the increased cost and the loss of 35mm. YMMV - I think the suggestions to rent the lenses are good ones. JAVEJu.
