How to Repair a Radiator With J-B WELD Drain your radiator. Clean the area where the leak is located thoroughly. Mix the J-B WELD. Apply your mixed J-B WELD all over the leak area liberally with the wooden tool. Replace the radiator plug on the bottom of the radiator and refill the fluid to the appropriate level.

For instance, over-filling the radiator can cause leaks from increased water pressure. A bad thermostat or a heater core can also create excessive heat and pressure on the radiator. Check the level of your radiator and the strength of your coolant while at the service station. Always check the radiator when the engine is cold; never when it’s
Address the issue. "Any issues related to water leaks can indicate a dangerous situation, since you are dealing with scalding water under pressure," says James. You essentially have two options to solve the issue based on the make of the radiator. When dealing with a cast iron radiator, James explains that you will simply have to replace it
Unfortunately, the Jeep’s got a busted radiator; no problem for MacGyver who whips up an ingenious fix using nothing more than egg whites and some water! to get it back on the er, tracks. Bizarre as it seems, this method of repairing radiators actually works!
5. Bad Heater Core. The heater core heats the cabin with the warm coolant from the motor. Some of the coolant moves through the heater core in the dashboard. It only takes a leak that’s the size of a pinhole to start spraying coolant out of the vents into the cabin when the heat is running. Turn on the heat to help dissipate heat from the engine. Keep your transmission in neutral when it’s safe to do so and rev the engine (this distributes antifreeze). After you pull over, turn off your engine and keep the windows open. Open the hood to further dissipate engine heat. Do not remove the radiator cap until the engine has cooled down. The way to do this is to pour some ground pepper or coffee into the coolant system (about one or two tablespoons should be enough). After that let the engine run for at least ten to 15 minutes. Due to circulation, the coffee or pepper will get to the damaged spot and seal it. Sort of a cheap, homemade radiator sealant.

how do you fix a leaking car rad? if the leak in the radiator is relativley small just crack an egg into the radiator through the cap, alternativley use a bottle of radweld in the same way

Not enough to hit the ground, but just enough to bake off, and provide a strong coolant smell. I was able to identify the signs of the leak looking at the back side of the radiator right next to the overflow bottle. And, as suspected my reserve level was lower than normal. I had just hist 23 months, and 38500 miles.
